How Many Units of Botox® Will I Need to Treat my Forehead?

Our facial expressions help make us human, but they also contribute to facial lines and wrinkles. Called dynamic wrinkles because they are caused by motion, these lines and wrinkles develop in areas where the muscles repeatedly pull on the skin. Botox® can stop the muscle action that causes wrinkles, letting the skin become smooth and relaxed

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® uses botulinum toxin, a protein that acts on nerve cells where they communicate with muscles. When injected into a facial muscle in tiny amounts, Botox® interferes with the nerve’s signals telling the muscles to contract. With no muscle contractions, the muscle and the overlying skin lose the constant tension.

Where Can Botox® Be Used?

The most common expression lines form as crow’s feet around the eyes, horizontal lines across the forehead, and wrinkles between the eyebrows. They can also appear around the mouth as small lines above and below the lip. Botox® works in all of these areas to smooth away these lines and wrinkles.

How Many Units of Botox® Will I Need to Treat My Forehead?

Like many other injectable treatments, Botox® is measured in units. Your provider will decide how many units you will need in each area depending on how noticeable you want your results to appear. Most people will require about 15-30 units of Botox® in the forehead area, while the challenging deep lines between the brows can require about 40 units, or even more in men since they have heavier brows.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

You will see your Botox® results within about seven to ten days after treatment. The specific muscles that create your lines and wrinkles will stop moving, but the rest of your face will continue to make your full range of normal expressions. With your lines and wrinkles gone, you will look less tired, more refreshed, and more relaxed. You can expect your results to last from three to four months, but you can get Botox® again when it wears off if you want to keep your youthful-looking appearance.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You will not have any downtime with Botox®. Many people have their treatment, which lasts about twenty minutes, and then return to their work or regular activities with no restrictions.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Most people make good candidates for Botox®. With well-established medical uses and an extensive history of safety, Botox® works safely for most people. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under the age of eighteen, or have a neuromuscular condition.
