How Long Does Microneedling Last?

Can you reduce lines and wrinkles, tighten skin, and remove scars with a minimally invasive treatment? Microneedling can do all this and more. This treatment triggers collagen production to rejuvenate your skin and give it youthful firmness.

Beverly Hills Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

This popular method of skin rejuvenation uses tiny areas of controlled micro-damage to trigger your skin’s natural repair processes. The treatment is minimally invasive with little to no downtime, making it a popular choice for those not ready for the longer recovery time with laser treatments. At Robertson Wellness and Aesthetics, we make microneedling even better by adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to improve healing and results

How Does Microneedling Work?

The needles used in microneedling penetrate only a few millimeters into the skin, reaching the layers of active skin cells. These micro-channels signal the surrounding cells to produce a cascade of healing and repair factors that quickly heal the skin. The cells also start to produce more collagen, a structural protein that gives the skin support and firmness. This enhanced collagen production tightens the skin to smooth lines and wrinkles, minimize scars, and correct uneven skin texture.

How Long Does Microneedling Last?

Results from microneedling will develop over several weeks. Most people will need multiple treatments to achieve their goals. After these treatments, your results can last about six months. Good skincare, including an approved product routine and avoidance of sun exposure, will help your results last longer. Sun exposure damages collagen and will make your results fade faster.

What is Microneedling With PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) improves microneedling by speeding up healing and enhancing your results. We will draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge, separating the pale yellow plasma layer containing the richest quantity of platelets. The platelets in PRP signal a powerful flood of growth and healing factors that heal the micro-channels for faster recovery. They also boost the signal for more collagen production, so your skin looks fuller, tighter, and firmer.

How Many Microneedling Treatments Will I Need?

Most people will need more than one treatment to see good results from microneedling. You will usually have between four and six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. You will start to see results after your first treatment, but they will continue to improve over time, even after your last treatment ends. For most people, touch-ups every six months can maintain your results after the initial treatment.

Is There Any Downtime With Microneedling?

You may see some swelling or redness that resolves within a few days. You can return to work or other activities after treatment. Make sure to protect your healing skin from sun exposure and wear a dermatologist-approved sunscreen. You will heal faster with the PRP than with standard microneedling.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Most people can have microneedling with PRP, even people with sensitive skin and acne. You may not be a good candidate if you take certain medications, are pregnant, or have certain medical conditions.
