Looking for refreshed, younger-looking skin?
Microneedling has been a popular procedure for many years. With the introduction of additional protein-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, you can see even more dramatic healing and improvement.
Over time, collagen and elastin, the body’s natural defense against aging, break down. The microneedling tool induces the body to create new, healthy collagen in deeper levels of the skin. Microneedling involves a series of micro-punctures with tiny, sterile needles that spark the body’s healing and promote the development of a new, more supportive collagen matrix. Microneedling has been well-established as a treatment for acne scars, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture.
Once the skin has been prepared with microneedling, we apply PRP to the area to promote healing, encourage tissue growth, and improve skin health. Platelet-rich plasma comes from your own blood, which we draw and separate to obtain the plasma. PRP helps heal athletic injuries, many physical health problems, and can help with hair loss, so applying it to the facial skin offers the same healing and growth-stimulating benefits.
Almost anyone can benefit from this treatment, especially if they have acne scarring, concerns with skin tone or texture, or fine lines and wrinkles. Because PRP comes from your own blood, using it on your face offers a safe healing treatment that your body naturally responds to.
You may see immediate improvement, but full results can take time. Initial improvements will increase over time. The skin often heals over 3-6 months following your microneedling treatment. The number of treatments required depends on your goals and skin conditions. Patients typically have 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Deeper issues like scarring, stretch marks, and wrinkles may require may need as many as 6-8 treatments. The addition of PRP speeds up this process and may decrease the number of sessions needed.
Microneedling involves penetrating the skin with very fine, sterilized needles. These wounds are so small that they do not bleed. The process stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which support the skin’s natural structure. Microneedling sessions can take about an hour from start to finish depending on the size of the area being targeted.
We will also account for the time it takes to draw your blood and separate out the PRP. After microneedling has opened up the skin to receive this treatment, the PRP can enter the skin and work to stimulate healing, boost your body’s natural recovery processes, and rejuvenate skin. Having blood drawn feels no more uncomfortable than any normal blood draw for a medical appointment, and your team can prepare you for the PRP while we separate the blood.
Many patients will experience some redness or swelling, but this usually goes away within one to four days. The addition of PRP speeds up the healing process and can make these symptoms disappear faster than if you had not received it.
